Legacy Projects

Our Legacy Projects

Since 2000 The Rotary Club of Edmonton has been raising funds for what we call Legacy Projects and has invested $2 million in our community.
 
In the fall of 2019 our club supported the iHuman Youth Society with a $30,000 grant to support necessary repairs of their facility after a water main broke.  
 
In 2016, to mark our club's centennial, we chose to support two youth organizations:
 
 

Boys & Girls Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton has been a partner for years.  In 2016, we contributed $40,000 to give the gymnasium a facelift following our $200,000 investment in 2011 to the McCauley Renovation Project, specifically, to create a proper eat-in kitchen so kids can share meals together and a dedicated homework room.

In October 2012 our club completed a $400,000 multi-year commitment to support the Africa Centre, in partnership with the Council for the Advancement of African Canadians (CAAC).  We built an Early Learning and Family Support centre in what used to be Wellington School. They lease the surplus school from the City of Edmonton.  We also provided bridge funding for  a child development teacher for three years.
 
The Rotary Centre for New Canadians was a collaboration between The Rotary Club of Edmonton and Catholic Social Services. The project created a First Stop-One Stop Centre for immigrants and refugees alike.  The Centre offers an opportunity to expand the number and type of options for affordable housing to Edmonton'sd newest community members and provide services to assist in their integration, wellness, independance, financial stability, and ability to participate in and contribute to the community. Clients (i.e. refugees, immigrantrs, migrants) of this project will benefit by receiving safe, conveneintly located, and affordable housing, and will have easy access to social, educational, language, settlement and health services which will assist in their ability to move on to the housing continuum.
 
Rotary Millenium House was another legacy project where we funded the construction of a 25-unit building in the McAuley community in collaboration with the Edmonton Inner City Housing Society.  Our support is ongoing in that every year our Club hosts a summer BBQ and a Christmas Dinner with the residents of Rotary Millenium House.
 
Other legacy projects and partners over the years include: Bissell Centre & Franciscan Sisters Lurana Shelter, Boyle McCauley Health Centre Dental Clinic, the Rotary Friendship Clock Tower at City Hall, the Arthur Henry Griesbach Statue, and Fort Edmonton Park.
