In 2002 some $200,000 was bequeathed to the Edmonton Rotary Club Foundation from the Estate of Arch Dickson. Arch had been a long serving member of the Rotary Club of Edmonton and a very active member in his community. He was Edmonton Born and educate, was active in the Boy Scout movement in his youth and was a adult member of the District Executive. He served his country in the Canadian Armed Forces during the 1939-45 conflict and joined the Rotary Club of Edmonton in 1946 with the classificationLaw-General Practice. Arch acted acted as legal advisor to the club for many years.
Arch came by committment to community service honestly. His father Sam moved from Ontario to Ft. Saskatchewan in 1902 and in 1916 he was a member of the organizing committee, then a charter member of the Rotary Club of Edmonton with the classification of Law-General Practice. Sam was the club's first Sgt. at Arms, the First Club Treasurer, member of the first executive, and he was the author of the club's by-laws. Both father and sone have a long history of "Service Above Self" and it is their honor the Dickson Memorial was created. In recognition of Arch Dickson and his father Sam, The Edmonton Rotary Club Foundation annually recognised a worthy living member of our community with a Paul Harris Fellowship. The candidate must be a person who has helped make Edmonton the dynamic, healthy city that it is today, and one who has exemplified the principles of Rotary in their life.
