During World War II the Rotary Club of Edmonton made contributions connected with the war effort. In the summer of 1940 it donated $2,000.00 toward the cost of a Red Cross ambulance, and a like amount toward the purchase of a Spitfire aircraft. In the four years immediately after the war, when rationing still existed in England and meat was in short supply, the Club conceived the idea of buying large quantities of canned meat. This was shipped to the Rotary Club of Liverpool for distribution among the needy.
