To put the founding of the club in perspective, it helps to remember that on February 23, 1905, Paul Harris arranged the first meeting ( of four prospective members in Chicago. This was the start  of the formation of service clubs. In the next five years, Rotary Club were formed in 15  other American cities. In 1910 P.A.C. McIntyre of Winnipeg formed the club that made Rotary International. In the followingvtwo years Rotary Expanded overseas to Dublin, London, Belfast and Galscow. In Canada the Winniprg Club sponsored the Rotary Club of Calgary. About that time P.A.C. MvIntyre came to Edmonton and encourgaed Sam Dickson to organize a club in Edmonton. The outbreak of World War 1 delayed the founding of the club until 1916. The first meeting was held March 16, 1916 and the official inauguration was held one week later.
