I regret to advise that Nick Ochotta passed away in his sleep early evening Friday December 4, 2009. Service details are:

Nick was an avid Rotarian having joined the Rotary Club of Edmonton January 11, 1968. Nick served the club as President  in the 1989 - 1990 Rotary year. Nick served in the Canadian military during World War two, operating a tank (little known fact: the Sherman tank had an air-cooled, aircraft-style, radial engine).  Nick's passion has always been photography.  He tells of, as a youth, assisting the official photographer of the Edmonton Eskimos football team, where Nick was responsible to load film into the movie cameras.  The film lasted about ten minutes, so quite a few films needed to be loaded for the game.  With the introduction of colour film, Nick entered the field of photofinishing, and he established Northwest Colour Laboratories, a colour film processing laboratory that served Alberta and more.

A little-known interest of Nick's is stained-glass windows.  Nick creates and repairs these windows, and for many years had his residential garage converted to this endeavor.  Nick is also an accomplished artist.

Over the years of his membership in Rotary, Nick has taken many photographs.  He has provided these to the club archives.

The prayer services will be held Sunday evening December 13th, 2009 at 7pm at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Edmonton.

The funeral services will be held Monday morning December 14th, 2009 at 10am at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Edmonton.  Committal is to follow in Boyle, Alberta.
