$5,000 Donation to Expand Bicycle Repair Capacity – November 12, 2025

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, members of our Community Service Committee—Mike Bull and J.J. Tremblay—visited Sport Central to present our Rotary Club’s donation of $5,000. This contribution will be used to purchase a new Bike Repair Stand along with related tools and equipment. These resources will directly support Sport Central’s mission of providing free bicycles to children in need, especially those living in Edmonton’s inner city.

Sport Central continues to see remarkable growth in demand for its services. Between 2022 and 2025, the number of children served in the downtown area has risen from 506 to 894, representing a 77% increase in just three years. This surge highlights both the growing need and the importance of ensuring Sport Central has the proper equipment to refurbish and distribute bicycles safely and efficiently.

The impact of their work is evident. In September 2025 alone, Sport Central donated 61 bicycles to local inner-city organizations, including:

  • Inner City High School – 5 bikes

  • iHuman Youth Society – 25 bikes

  • YouCan Youth Services – 31 bikes

These bicycles provide not only transportation, but also independence, physical activity, and a sense of freedom for young people who need it most.

Our Club is proud to support Sport Central as they continue to expand their reach and empower youth across Edmonton. Thank you to our committee members for representing us and to all Rotarians whose generosity makes this support possible.
