January 24th - Youth Day

Speakers:        Each group will have 10 - 12 minutes to present

First Group:      Attendees of the World Affairs Seminar

Julia Amelio and Elizabeth Higgs, Attendees sponsored by Youth Services

The World Affairs Seminar is the vision of Rotarian Dr. Dale Brock, whose vision was to bring about better understanding of world problems within a select group of young people from around the world. To accomplish this, he built a Seminar to study current issues. In the course of this study, the Seminar provides opportunities for participants to discuss those issues with other young people from around the world. Emphasis is on promoting better understanding of the causes of international conflict with the idea that if the causes are understood, problems are more likely to be solved peacefully.

Second Group:  Rotaract of Edmonton Centre

Hailey Hutton, President, Kirsten Poon, Vice President, Pavel Medvedev, International Director

Rotaract of Edmonton Centre will be speaking about our two main ongoing community and international projects. The community initiative is an after-school mentorship program for a group of students at Delton Elementary School . The International project we're currently working on is a nursery construction project on Mfangano Island , Kenya . This May, they will be traveling again to Mfangano Island to assist in construction of the nursery, visit the school and bring new shoes for every student of Misori primary school.
