The Rotary Program, Thursday May 28, will feature Neil Shelly as our guest speaker. Neil is a native of Alberta and was born and raised in Grande Prairie. Upon receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta he began his career in the Industrial Heartland as a process engineer at the Esso Chemical's Red Water Fertilizer complex. Upon leaving Esso Chemicals, Neil enjoyed a diverse career as an environmental consultant as well as various positions with the Government of Alberta. Neil left the Government of Alberta in 1995 to accept the position of Director, Environmental and Technical Affairs with the Alberta Forest Products Association (AFPA) and was appointed to the position of Executive Director in 2002. In November of 2007, Neil was appointed the Executive Director of the Alberta Industrial Heartland Association where he coordinates economic development and sustainable planning initiatives for the region. The Alberta Industrial Heartland Association is a cooperative effort of the municipalities of the Counties of Lamont, Sturgeon, Strathcona as well as the City of Fort SaskatchewanIts mandate is to promote and enhance sustainable economic development in the region.
