The program will feature Jay G. Ramotar, P.Eng., M.Eng., Deputy Minister Alberta Transportation. Jay brings extensive experience in the field of transportation to his current position as Deputy Minister of Transportation. A Graduate of the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Jay attained a Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering in 1976.

Transportation has been the primary theme of Jay's career since he first joined the Department of Transportation as a bridge planning engineer the same year. After meeting the challenges of more senior roles, including Executive Director of the Bridge Engineers Branch and later the Project Manager Branch with Alberta Transportation and Utilities, he rose to the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of the Transportation and Civil Engineering Division in 1998. In 2001, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Transportation where he remained for the next three years until he was presented with a new challenge to manage the merger of two government departments as Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation. He served in that capacity until his current appointment in 2008.

As Deputy Minister, Jay advises and supports the Minister of Transportation on government policy and oversees the:

- planning, building and management of the provincial highway network

- delivery of safety-focused transportation education and enforcement programs;

- Transportation Safety Board; and

- administration of municipal grant pogroms
