This Thursday, the Rotary program will feature the two finalists for  the Rotary Club of Edmonton's Legacy project. As this will be a significant project with a substantial price tag, members are urged to attend and listen to what the presenters have to say. A great deal of work has already been done, and what remains is the presentation and vote to select the project.October 9th is the voting day. The information that follows was published last week, and is being reprinted to allow the membership to be well prepared for the presentations on Thursday.

Process: 
Request for Proposals were sent out first week of April, 2008 to 28 possible proponent organizations in the greater Edmonton area.  Deadline for submission was May 31.  The Committee received 13 responses to the RFP and narrowed that list to 6 on June 11.  Those six were:

    YWCA - Building Bright Futures Campaign
    Pilgrims Hospice - Construction of Edmonton's First and Only Community Based Residential Hospice
    Bissell Centre - Relocation of the Community Access Program
    Children's Autism Services of Edmonton - Children's Treatment Centre
    Society for Assisted Cooperative Recovery from Eating Disorders - Treatment Facility

    Over the summer the Committee undertook due diligence on each of the six short listed projects.  The Committee met on August 27 and selected three semi-finalists from the six:

      Pilgrims Hospice - Construction of Edmonton's First and Only Community Based Residential Hospice
      Children's Autism Services of Edmonton - Children's Treatment Centre
      Canadian Council for the Advancement of African Canadians - Immigrant Family Resource and Early Child Development Centre Project

    On September 9, the Board of Directors heard presentations from each of the semi-finalists and selected two finalists:

      Pilgrims Hospice - Construction of Edmonton's First and Only Community Based Residential Hospice
      Canadian Council for the Advancement of African Canadians - Immigrant Family Resource and Early Child Development Centre Project

    At the September 11 Rotary meeting, the 2008 Legacy Projects Committee Chair, Clayton Tiedemann gave an overview of the process followed by the Committee and made available hard copies of a brief summary of the two finalist projects for Club members to read the next two stories will provide further detail on these two project finalists.

    Next Steps

    At the September 25 Rotary meeting, the Club will hear presentations from each of the finalist with the opportunity for a few questions.  On October 2, the Board of Directors and the Legacy Projects Committee will answer any additional questions Club members may have.  If necessary the questions will be forwarded to the respective finalists for a written answer.  Finally, on October 9, the Club membership will be asked to vote for which project they support through secret ballot.
