Rotary Club of Edmonton Joins Operation Friendship’s #Socktober Campaign

Last Friday, October 17th, our Club’s Chair of the Community Service Committee, J.J. Tremblay, met with Jimmy Morrisson, Community Relations Manager from Operation Friendship Seniors Society (OFSS), at Costco Wholesale #258 on 91 Street in south Edmonton. Their mission that day: to make a tangible difference for Edmonton’s inner-city seniors by helping keep them warm through the cold months ahead.

In support of OFSS’s 2025 #Socktober Fall Campaign, our club proudly donated $1,503.76, which provided 125 pairs of warm winter socks for both men and women in need. These high-quality socks will soon find their way to some of Edmonton’s most vulnerable seniors — people who depend on the care and outreach of OFSS to get through Alberta’s harsh winters.

The generosity didn’t stop there. Costco Wholesale joined in the spirit of giving by adding an additional 28 pairs of socks, representing a contribution of $523.30. Together, this partnership resulted in a combined donation valued at $2,027.06 — a wonderful demonstration of community collaboration in action.

A photo from the day captures representatives from OFSS, Costco, and our Rotary Club of Edmonton team, marking another successful initiative in our ongoing commitment to serve those who need us most.

As temperatures drop and the need for warm clothing rises, small acts of kindness like these have a big impact. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Costco Wholesale #258, Operation Friendship Seniors Society, and all our Rotarians who continue to support hands-on community projects that make Edmonton a better, warmer place for everyone.
