High praise with friendly jabs were delivered last Thursday as Rotarian, Past President and Past District Governor Frank Totino was honored for his 50 years in Rotary.
This was one of the largest gatherings of Past District Governors, along with District Governor David Taylor and District Governor Elect that has occured outside a District Conference in years. This is a tribute to the man and the service he has provided to Rotary and the Community. Frank, in his opportunity to reflect offered a perspective on Rotary. One of the specific point he spoke about was the need to foscus on membership and recruiting of new members. New members are the life blood of what we can do in the community. As a personal reflection on his comments, I know that there are 12 female headed single parent families that now have homes in Panamarim, Brazil because of Frank. They will never know him, nor will he they. It was Frank's enthusiastic invitation to a young Rotary member some 18 years ago to accompany him to a Rotary District 5360 Development Society meeting in Red Deer. Over the years that member had an opportuity to understand the need and partnership available around the world, and one of the projects that "happened" was the housing project in Brazil. The point of this story is that if you recuite and encourage participation who knows what the eventual impact will be. Thanks Frank!
