Note from the President
Welcome to a new year of Rotary!

We're off to a great start with the visit of Rotary International President Jennifer Jones, presenting her thoughts on the year ahead.  Her theme of Imagine, coupled with her Canadian heritage, promises to keep the focus of Rotary moving forward.  I can't wait to see where that goes.

We had a wonderful time at the picnic at the end of June and it was great to meet so many family members.  It's one thing to get to know Rotarians, but the context of family puts a different emphasis on how we know people.  The personal connections that were made at this event, and the reconnection moments as people came back together having been apart due to Covid, really reinforced the Rotarian spirit of our club.

Looking forward to seeing you all out on the links at Highlands on Monday August 8th.  I'm sure the weather won't let us down and it will be as beautiful as it was last year.  A day of sunshine and fun is just what we need midsummer.

Take good care of each other and enjoy the days of summer which is always too short.  Find a new path, a campsite, a pool, or just a fountain and focus on your own wellness even if just for a moment in time.

Jennifer Jones Explores Edmonton
Over a dozen club members attended the special evening with Jennifer Jones on July 9th.  Fantastic to be able to tour Fort Edmonton for the day and to check out the Indigenous Peoples display.   We met MANY Rotarians from around the district.  Truly was an amazing gala!

We enjoyed the special Rotary event with Jennifer at the Blatchford field with over 300 people.

The last Rotary International president that visited Edmonton was K._R._Ravindran from Sri Lanka who came to our 100th club celebration six years ago.

The event closed with everyone holding hands and singing "Imagine".

One special item came from a $5000 donation to End Polio from a couple:

The Rotaract Club of Edmonton is enjoying the summer! The club has been focussing on socials and volunteering this summer as many of our members are busy or are away. Some of our socials have included bike riding, frisbee in the park, and a fire at one of our member's houses. We are volunteering at the Edmonton Food Bank and the Green and Gold Community Gardens this summer and are looking forward to getting back to our normal meeting schedule in the fall. Thanks so much for your ongoing support and hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather!

On Monday, together with Barb, we pack 28 backpacks with clothes, sweets and other stuff for Ukrainian children who’re temporarily staying in Ustka, at the Baltic Sea.

We purchased everything yesterday and today (Barb used her funds for this shopping). I’m taking three days off from my work next week and I’m driving Barb there. She’ll stay there with the kids to share some time with them (for about 2 weeks) and she’s going to run workshops for them. She’s an amazing woman!
Lots of work, lots of logistics here, but  everything is going well and smoothly.

Thank you for making all these possible.   Picture at bottom with Insect Repellant.
