RYLE, RYLA & RYPEN are all leadership development camps that are applied to by students ages 15-18. The Rotary Club of Edmonton sponsors two students per year to attend these camps in our efforts to see strong, confident youth, leading other youth to success and service above self!

RYLE

The Rotary Youth Leadership Experience (RYLE) brings High School aged students from across District 5370 to Camp Nakamun for a four day leadership developmental camp packed with workshops, speakers, and experiences that build confidence, communities, and empowerment. These students are nominated by Interact Clubs and High Schools as individuals who show strong potential for growth in the field of leadership and often have little or no previous experience with Rotary International.

The programming of the camp has three main focuses: intrapersonal growth, communication, and community building and global citizenship. Students are encouraged to take part on a challenge-by-choice basis and ample opportunity is given for each participant to express their individuality and test their strengths.

One of the greatest outcomes of the program, however, is by far the relationships, communities, and trust that are built within the camp. Over a short, yet intense period the students develop strong trust with both the counsellors and other campers, where they feel comfortable sharing parts of themselves they often haven’t shared with anyone else in their lives. The bonds formed at RYLE have proven time and time again to form lasting supports and many of our alumni are still in contact today. The camp further acts as a gateway into the Rotary Community, providing trackways and opportunities to service-oriented individuals to become involved on a wider scale.

Our students enter RYLE as individuals primed for growth. They leave as leaders part of our Rotary family.

RYLA

This amazing youth program led by youth is a day for learning, growth and leadership! Support our youth!

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Institute brings Interact Club executives from across District 5370 together for a one day developmental conference packed with workshops and speakers intended to empower confidence and teach vital skills required by those stepping into leadership positions in their clubs.

The programming of the conference is designed to develop the specific skills these young leaders will need to be successful in the context of an Interact club spanning personal, club, and community development. In the past these have included workshops on budgeting, project planning, club dynamics, communication, and conflict management skills to name a few. The conference also invites two keynote speakers each year to speak on topics surrounding Rotary, Leadership, and Community.

One of the most promising aspects of the conference is that it allows for students in Interact clubs across the District to meet and share ideas and strategies and build relations with one another. These connections allow Interact Clubs to not only be exposed to new ideas and learn from one another’s experience, but to promote cooperation and support between clubs throughout the year.

RYPEN

Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) is a hands-on 4-day “Journey to the Core” personal development experience that is hosted by Rotary International District 5370.
The program is designed for youth aged 15-18 who live within Rotary International District 5370, who want to grow but have limited opportunities to attend other development programs.

Participants are involved in a variety of workshops and activities, which provide an opportunity for them to personally develop, gain self-confidence, communication skills, gain an understanding of how to set and achieve goals, challenge their personal boundaries, confidence to take control of their own future, build friendships, and develop life skills.
